Proposed Boundary Changes for Beacon Hill Schools

The Seattle School District today released proposed changes to the boundary map for its schools.

The goal says Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson is to make enrollment more predictable for parents and students.  The strategy is to use geography as the deciding factor for which schools kids attend.

This boundary map lays out the proposed changes for elementary and middle schools.  As you look at Beacon Hill you can see the district's hope is to ensure kids are attending schools close to where they live.

Since Beacon Hill International School will be feeding students into Mercer Middle school, the district is planning to turn Mercer into an international school as well.  The language programs would likely be the same.

Parents are being invited to ask questions and offer comments on the plan during neighborhood meetings scheduled over the next few weeks.

The community feedback meeting set for our neighborhood has been scheduled for Mercer Middle School (1600 South Columbian Way) on Saturday October 17th from 1:00-3:00pm.
